India Women’s Pre-T20 World Cup Agenda: Crucial Fixes Needed for England Series

India is gearing up for the Women’s T20 World Cup, and their journey so far has been a rollercoaster of emotions. The team kicked things off with an impressive 5-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka at home last December. They then traveled to Australia and achieved a remarkable 2-1 series win, marking their first victory there in ten years. Shreyanka Patil shone brightly, earning the Player of the Match award during the series.

However, things took a downturn during their tour of South Africa, where India faced a tough time, losing the series 1-4. This series highlighted their struggles with consistency, but it’s now time to look ahead to the T20 World Cup. Before they dive into the tournament, India will match up against England in a three-match T20I series, followed by two warm-up games.

Despite the setbacks against South Africa, captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s team has the perfect chance to regroup, find their rhythm, and get the squad ready for the World Cup. Here’s what the Indian women should focus on during the T20I series against England.

### Give Nandni Sharma a Chance

With Nandni Sharma receiving her first call-up to the national team, it’s important that she gets the chance to play in all three T20I matches against England. Even if she isn’t currently one of the first-choice bowlers for the World Cup, the experience will be invaluable. Having solid backups is key, especially since injuries can happen.

Nandni has already displayed her talent in the WPL, where she took the wickets of top players like Smriti Mandhana and Meg Lanning while playing for Delhi Capitals. Although she didn’t get any wickets against the ECB Development Women’s XI recently, she kept it tight by only conceding 18 runs in three overs. This series offers a great opportunity to prepare her for the challenges she’ll face in the World Cup.

### Allow Radha and Yastika to Find Their Feet

The series against England will also be essential for assessing Radha Yadav and Yastika Bhatia’s form. Radha returns after almost a year away, and during that time, Shree Charani established herself in the team. Radha is more than just a bowler; she’s one of the best fielders around and can contribute significantly with the bat, as shown during her performances in the WPL.

Yastika, who missed the ODI World Cup due to injury, is looking to regain her edge. She showed promise in her recent outing, scoring 47 runs against the ECB Development Women’s XI, and will be eager to prove herself. With both players needing game time, this series is crucial for their preparation.

### Improving the Fast Bowling Unit

India’s fast bowlers faced criticism during the South Africa series, where they struggled to find their rhythm. Against England, they will need to sharpen their skills. The conditions in England could favor fast bowlers, so it’s vital that the bowlers, including Kranti Goud and Renuka Singh Thakur, are ready to perform.

Despite a tough outing recently, Kranti’s five-wicket haul in a previous match gives her a confidence boost. Similarly, Arundhati Reddy’s recent wickets against the ECB Development Women’s XI may help her regain her form. If they can find their groove early on, they might create serious trouble for opposing batters.

Overall, India has the talent and resources to bounce back strongly, and the T20I series against England will be an excellent chance to set the tone before the World Cup.
