The Saudi Film Commission has announced a significant increase in its cash rebate program for film productions. The rebate has jumped from 40% to an impressive 60% of eligible expenses, making it one of the most attractive incentives globally. This update was revealed by CEO Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Qahtani at the Marché du Film during the recent Cannes Film Festival.
In addition to the rebate increase, the new program includes faster disbursement processes and better cash flow management for production companies. This initiative was developed in collaboration with the Cultural Development Fund.
Al-Qahtani emphasized that the goal is not only to offer the highest rebate but also to create a nimble system for filmmakers. He stated, “We are focused on forming a comprehensive ecosystem that gives filmmakers confidence, supports the private sector, and brings valuable investments that enhance local talent.”
Majed bin Abdulmohsen Al-Hugail, CEO of the Cultural Development Fund, highlighted the importance of efficiency in production and investment decisions. He noted that their program aims to simplify the experience for film projects at different stages, positioning Saudi Arabia as a dependable partner for international productions.
The cash rebate initiative was first launched in 2021, shortly after cinemas reopened in Saudi Arabia following a 35-year ban. This move signals the country’s commitment to becoming a significant player in the global film industry.
