Manish Pandey Shines in Crunch Match for KKR

Manish Pandey had been waiting patiently throughout the IPL 2026 season for a chance to make an impact. When the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) found themselves in a tight spot against the Mumbai Indians, he stepped up and reminded everyone at Eden Gardens why he remains a fan favorite.

Pandey delivered an impressive performance, scoring 45 runs off 33 balls, which helped KKR secure a crucial five-wicket victory on May 20. This win kept their playoff hopes alive as defending champions. After mostly sitting on the sidelines this season, Pandey entered a high-pressure situation and performed with the poise fans remember from the Gautam Gambhir era.

Speaking after being named Player of the Match, Pandey expressed joy at finally getting a chance to bat. “This was my first real opportunity this season, and it feels great. KKR has always been good to me,” he shared with a smile.

He emphasized his determination to make the most of this long-awaited chance. “I had been waiting to bat all season, and while I didn’t get the opportunity in the first four matches, I knew this one was special. I wanted to help our team win,” he added.

Even when not chosen to play, Pandey stayed engaged with the team. “It was important for me to feel connected with everyone. If anyone needed advice, I was there to help,” he noted.

KKR’s Victory Lifted by Pandey’s Experience

For longtime KKR supporters, Pandey’s return to the crease during a tense moment felt nostalgic, reminiscent of several significant matches from the past. The stakes had changed, though; this time, it was all about staying in the competition.

After restricting the Mumbai Indians to 147 runs with solid bowling, KKR faced a challenging chase on a tricky pitch. An aggressive start by Finn Allen ended abruptly when he lost his wicket, and an injury to Angkrish Raghuvanshi forced KKR to adjust their batting order, allowing Pandey the opportunity to bat at No. 3.

He quickly calmed the tension by partnering with Ajinkya Rahane and later forming a key 64-run partnership with Rovman Powell, easing the pressure on the chase. Pandey even took on renowned bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, showing flashes of the confident player fans have loved over the years.

Ultimately, it was Rinku Singh who sealed the match with the winning runs, pushing KKR to 13 points and keeping them in contention for the playoffs. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane praised Pandey’s professionalism despite limited chances this season.

“I’m really happy for Manish Pandey. His work ethic and attitude have been fantastic. It’s tough when you’re not playing, but he has been a brilliant support to the team,” Rahane said after the match.

On a night where failure was not an option for KKR, Pandey proved he still has plenty to offer when given the chance.
