Mohammed Shami Cleared in Cheque Bounce Case

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been acquitted in a cheque bounce case involving his wife, Hasin Jahan. The decision came from the Alipore Court, which found that the charges against Shami regarding a bounced cheque worth Rs 1 lakh could not be substantiated. This case had been ongoing for four years, but the latest ruling closed this chapter for the cricketer.

The dispute dates back to 2018 when Hasin claimed that Shami issued her a cheque for household expenses, which bounced when she tried to deposit it. Following this, she took the matter to court. In addition to this case, Hasin has raised several other complaints against Shami and his family.

After the verdict, Shami spoke to the media, expressing his confidence in the outcome. “I knew the verdict would be in our favor because I haven’t done anything wrong. I have made all the necessary payments,” he stated. He emphasized his commitment to handling all challenges, both in and out of cricket, diligently.

Shami is currently playing for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, but his personal life has garnered attention due to ongoing legal issues. Reflecting on the challenges he’s faced, he remarked, “Not everything is within one’s control. Nevertheless, I keep trying.”

While Shami has found relief in this case, he still has a legal battle ahead concerning maintenance and alimony payments. As directed by the Calcutta High Court, he currently pays Rs 1.5 lakh monthly to Hasin Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter’s upbringing, totaling Rs 4 lakh per month. However, Hasin has approached the Supreme Court, arguing that this amount is insufficient for their needs. The court has questioned whether this sum is adequate for a mother and daughter’s expenses.

Reports indicate that Hasin continues to live at Shami’s residence in Kolkata while frequently traveling to Delhi for their daughter’s education. Shami spends most of his time in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, especially when he’s not participating in cricket.

The recent court ruling in the cheque case has provided Shami with a significant legal reprieve, but the ongoing maintenance dispute remains unresolved.
