Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines in IPL 2026 with Record-Breaking Performance

The rise of 15-year-old batting star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has taken the cricket world by storm, especially during IPL 2026. After a phenomenal match against the Lucknow Super Giants, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan expressed his admiration, stating that Sooryavanshi is beginning to instill the same fear in bowlers that legendary player Chris Gayle did at his peak.

In what turned out to be a thrilling chase at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Sooryavanshi delivered an explosive performance. The young opening batsman led the Rajasthan Royals with an incredible 38-ball knock of 93 runs, smashing seven fours and a staggering ten sixes. His impressive innings helped the Royals secure a seven-wicket victory, making it look effortless.

Closing in on Chris Gayle’s Record

By hitting ten sixes in this match, Sooryavanshi boosted his seasonal total to an eye-popping 53. He is now just a few sixes away from matching the IPL single-season record of 59, set by Chris Gayle in 2012.

On JioHotstar, Irfan Pathan marveled at how the young player quickly found his rhythm. He noted that it’s hard to stop Sooryavanshi once he gets going, highlighting that the teen started slow but soon shifted gears to dominate the game.

“With 53 sixes, he’s closing in on Gayle’s long-standing record. Bowlers used to dread facing Chris Gayle, and now that fear is returning with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi,” Pathan commented.

A T20 Sensation

Former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar also praised Sooryavanshi, stating that the young batsman’s exceptional shot-making defies traditional cricketing terms. He called the performance a true masterclass, one that entertained fans and hinted at the bright future ahead for the young cricketer.

Sooryavanshi’s remarkable inning earned him his third Player of the Match award this season, ensuring that the Rajasthan Royals remain in control of their playoff ambitions as they gear up for their final league match against the Mumbai Indians.
