Indian Community in Norway Excited for PM Modi’s Visit

Oslo, May 18 – As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for his visit to Norway, the local Indian community is filled with pride and excitement. Many members believe this visit will further enhance the relationship between India and Norway.

In conversations with IANS, several individuals expressed their happiness about the Prime Minister’s upcoming trip. One community member remarked, “It’s great that PM Modi is visiting. He has accomplished much, and we hope he continues to build on this success.”

Another shared, “This visit is crucial for strengthening ties. It’s beneficial for both India and Norway.”

A different perspective came from another member who highlighted the current global challenges. “With issues related to oil and gas, Norway can support India in various ways. PM Modi is visiting places that previous leaders haven’t, and that makes us very proud,” they said.

One person emphasized the significance of the visit, saying, “It’s a matter of great pride that a leader representing 1.5 billion Indians is coming to our country. This is a wonderful opportunity for both nations.”

This trip marks PM Modi’s inaugural visit to Norway and is notably the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 43 years. His schedule includes meetings with King Harald V and Queen Sonja, as well as discussions with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Additionally, PM Modi will participate in the India-Norway Business and Research Summit alongside Støre. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) believes this visit will allow both nations to evaluate their ongoing relationship and identify new opportunities, focusing on trade, investment, clean technology, and sustainable practices.

The MEA also indicated that this visit could boost bilateral trade, which is expected to reach approximately $2.73 billion in 2024. Norway’s Government Pension Fund has invested close to $28 billion in the Indian capital market, reflecting strong economic ties.

The upcoming 3rd India-Nordic Summit, set for May 19, 2026, in Oslo, will also add to this collaboration. PM Modi will be joined by leaders from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden at this summit.

This event aims to deepen relationships in areas like technology, green energy, and sustainable development, building on previous summits in Stockholm and Copenhagen. The visit is anticipated to enhance India’s economic partnership with Nordic countries while paving the way for resilient supply chains.

This visit is indeed a moment of pride for the Indian community in Norway and a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations.
