24-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Kanpur: Family Alleges Harassment

In a tragic incident in Kanpur, a 24-year-old woman, identified as Ekta Singh, was found dead in her home on Saturday evening. Ekta, the daughter of a lawyer, reportedly took her own life by hanging herself in the Kalyanpur area.

The grim discovery was made by her parents when they returned home later that day. They found her in a disturbing situation, which prompted them to alert the authorities immediately.

Family members have come forward, claiming that Ekta was a victim of harassment by a young man, which they believe led to her distress and ultimately to her tragic decision.

Chandra Prakash Singh, Ekta’s father, shared that she was studying for her M. Lib degree. On the day of the incident, he had gone to court while his wife, Laxmi Singh, was out buying medicines. Ekta was home alone at the time.

According to reports, a friend of Ekta contacted her in the afternoon, and after a long conversation, the friend attempted to reach her again but was unable to get a response. Concerned, the friend then called Ekta’s father, asking when he would be home.

As the evening progressed, when Chandra Prakash and Laxmi returned around 6 PM, they found the main gate locked from the inside. With no response after knocking, a neighbor assisted in climbing over the wall to open the door. Tragically, they found Ekta hanging from the ceiling fan.

Police, accompanied by a forensic team, arrived to investigate. They seized the young woman’s mobile phone as part of their inquiries. Initial findings suggest that a young man had been persistently harassing her, leading to severe mental stress.

Inspector Santosh Kumar Singh stated, “The family has lodged a formal complaint against a young man for harassment. We will investigate thoroughly and take appropriate action based on our findings.”

This heartbreaking case has brought to light the serious issue of mental health and the impact of harassment, emphasizing the need for better support and awareness in the community.
