Ship Seized Near UAE Coast: UK Military Reports

An Iranian force took control of a ship about 38 nautical miles off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) early Thursday. This incident occurred while President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping were meeting in Beijing, discussing significant topics, including the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the vessel was boarded by unauthorized personnel northeast of Fujairah, a key oil export terminal. Following the seizure, the ship was observed heading toward Iranian waters.

Although British authorities have not confirmed the ship’s ownership or the identities of those who seized it, reports suggest that the Honduras-flagged vessel, the Hui Chuan, was involved in the incident.

The BBC reported insights from the risk-management firm Vanguard, stating that the Hui Chuan was functioning as a “floating armory” to help protect ships in the Strait from pirate attacks.

Since February, at least two other ships have been seized in the region, indicating ongoing tensions. In April, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) captured two additional vessels, the Panamanian-flagged MSC Francesca and the Epaminondes.

The UKMTO and Vanguard have been contacted for more details but have not yet responded.
