KatRisk Unveils New Business Structure for Enhanced Catastrophe Risk Management

KatRisk, a leading firm specializing in catastrophe risk modeling software for the insurance and financial sectors, has announced the launch of two key segments: KatRisk Intelligence and KatRisk Technology.

This new division aims to strengthen the company’s commitment to blending scientific progress with practical decision-making in the insurance and financial industries. With the growing challenges posed by catastrophe risks, KatRisk recognizes the necessity for re/insurers to assess these risks more quickly, accurately, and transparently.

The company has revamped its structure to meet these demands by integrating high-quality models, hazard data, and advanced analytics with the technology needed to turn them into actionable insights.

Understanding KatRisk Intelligence

KatRisk Intelligence focuses on gathering catastrophe models and hazard information, including data on floods, wildfires, tropical storms, severe storms, and earthquakes. It relies on cutting-edge, physics-based models and powerful computational resources to simulate how catastrophic events develop and lead to financial losses. This method aims to provide a comprehensive and transparent understanding of risk, supporting better underwriting, pricing, and portfolio management decisions.

Harnessing Technology with KatRisk Technology

On the other hand, KatRisk Technology serves as the platform that operationalizes these insights. It features KatRisk’s range of tools, such as SpatialKat, SoloKat, Perilfinder, and Orchestra, that seamlessly integrate catastrophe risk into underwriting and exposure management processes.

One standout component, Orchestra, functions as a flexible analytics engine that allows organizations to use KatRisk’s models, include third-party risk assessments, or input their own data— all within one unified system. This flexibility permits teams to compare different perspectives, validate their assumptions, and make more informed decisions without being confined to a single model or data source.

Together, these two segments create a cohesive ecosystem that links scientific understanding of catastrophes to business strategies. This allows companies to move beyond traditional static views of risk to achieve dynamic insights that can guide their actions.

Martyn Sutton, the General Manager at KatRisk, remarked, “Our aim is to make insights on catastrophe risks readily accessible during decision-making. Whether clients are using our models, integrating external data, or applying their own risk perspectives, we’re enabling them to assess everything in one location and act with increased certainty.”

With this new structure, KatRisk is poised to further support its clients in navigating the complexities of catastrophe risks.
