KKR Coach Confirms Varun Chakravarthy Out Against RCB
Kolkata Knight Riders’ head coach, Abhishek Nayar, has announced that spinner Varun Chakravarthy will miss the upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur on Wednesday night due to a hairline fracture in his toe.
Nayar did not specify how long Chakravarthy would be sidelined but expressed hope that he might return for the next game if his condition improves. He mentioned during a briefing, “It’s been tough for him. He’s been trying hard to help the team, but right now, it’s quite uncomfortable for him. We’re optimistic that if he feels better, he might play in the following game.”
Chakravarthy, known for his mystery spin, was seen using crutches and wearing knee braces after KKR’s last match against Delhi Capitals, raising concerns about his future games in the Indian Premier League.
He has been a crucial player for KKR, especially after a tough start to the season. Initially, the team lost six matches in a row, and after a wicketless opening, Chakravarthy made a strong comeback, taking 10 wickets in just four games, including a standout performance with three wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad. His impressive form has significantly contributed to KKR’s resurgence, helping them secure four consecutive victories and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Currently, KKR stands eighth on the points table, with nine points from 10 matches. With four matches left, including the crucial game against RCB, KKR finds themselves in a must-win situation, needing to clinch victory in all their remaining matches to boost their chances of making the playoffs.
Their predicament is reminiscent of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s astonishing comeback last season, where they won seven consecutive games to secure a playoff spot and ultimately claimed their first IPL title.
