Kolkata Knight Riders Celebrate Big Win Over SunRisers Hyderabad
Exciting celebrations erupted at the team hotel after the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) triumphed over the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. KKR secured a strong seven-wicket victory, avenging their earlier defeat against SRH this season.
The match saw spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy tightly control the SRH batting lineup. Youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a crucial role in guiding KKR through the 166-run chase with composure.
After their victory, the team returned to their hotel, where they celebrated by playfully smashing cake in the face of Andre Russell, who had recently celebrated his birthday. KKR shared a fun video on social media, showing Russell getting cake on his face while Narine kicked off the fun and head coach Abhishek Nayar held him from behind, with teammates watching in amusement.
KKR Dominates SRH in Hyderabad
Kolkata Knight Riders displayed a remarkable comeback in IPL 2026 with their impressive seven-wicket win over SunRisers Hyderabad. They easily ran down the target of 166 runs, marking their third consecutive victory after a rough start to the season.
Once struggling to find their footing with six consecutive losses, KKR’s recent success has largely stemmed from their strong spin bowling. Varun Chakravarthy was particularly instrumental, taking three wickets for 36 runs and keeping the SRH batters in check. Meanwhile, Sunil Narine contributed with two wickets and reached an impressive milestone of 200 IPL wickets.
SRH began on a high note, with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head scoring quickly, reaching 44 runs in just 3.3 overs. Head was especially aggressive, achieving a fifty in just 22 balls. However, the game took a turn when Chakravarthy dismissed him for 61 in the ninth over, causing a sudden collapse in the SRH lineup. They lost nine wickets for a mere 60 runs as Heinrich Klaasen failed to take advantage of a dropped catch, and Ishan Kishan found himself without support from the middle order. Narine then made a key impact by taking out Kishan and Salil Arora in one over, leaving SRH all out for 165 runs in 19 overs.
In reply, Finn Allen gave KKR a quick start, targeting bowler Pat Cummins early on. His rapid 29 set a positive tone even though he was dismissed soon after. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi formed a steady partnership of 84 runs, expertly guiding KKR toward victory without feeling pressure.
Despite losing a couple of wickets near the end, KKR wrapped up the chase in just 18.2 overs, with Rinku Singh finishing the match. With this win, KKR has reignited their campaign, while SRH will need to quickly regroup following this unexpected batting performance.
