Chennai Super Kings Coach Explains Dhoni’s Absence from Matches
Chennai Super Kings’ batting coach, Michael Hussey, has shared insights into why the legendary MS Dhoni hasn’t been spotted at matches during IPL 2026. Although Dhoni has been involved in training sessions, he has chosen not to attend the games.
Hussey revealed that Dhoni is currently recovering from a calf injury and believes that his presence at the venues might distract the team. Dhoni is known for being very team-focused and wants to make sure that the spotlight doesn’t shift from the players to him.
Hussey stated, “He really cares about the team. He was concerned that if he was there, it might take attention away from the team’s performance. The cameras would naturally focus on him, and he wants the team to concentrate on their game.”
He added, “Whether that’s right or wrong is not for me to decide. But that’s why Dhoni is not attending the matches.”
Dhoni Keeps in Touch with the Team
Despite not being present at the games, Dhoni is closely following the team from home. Hussey emphasized that Dhoni remains actively involved during training sessions, where he shares his insights and bolsters the players’ confidence.
“Dhoni is watching the games closely from home. I love having him around; he brings a lot of wisdom and boosts the team’s spirit. He’s always lively during training and offers valuable advice. He just didn’t want to be a distraction on match days,” Hussey mentioned.
Due to his injury, Dhoni has yet to play this season, but Hussey noted that he has been performing well in practice. However, his ability to play will depend on how quickly he recovers, especially since quick running is crucial in the closing overs of matches. Currently, the Super Kings sit in sixth place with six points and a net run rate of -0.121.
