Modi Expresses Relief After Shooting at White House Event
On Sunday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his relief over the safety of US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance following a shooting at a White House event. Modi emphasized that he was thankful they were “safe and unharmed.”
Modi extended his wishes for their continued safety and strongly condemned violence, asserting that “there is no place for violence in a democracy.”
His comments came after Trump and other officials were evacuated from the venue of a White House correspondent’s dinner due to the shooting incident.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The shooter has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California, according to law enforcement sources. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries, though gunfire was exchanged, triggering a rapid security response.
The FBI has confirmed that Allen is in custody, with its Washington field office taking the lead in the investigation. US Attorney Jeanine Pirro mentioned that he is facing preliminary charges for firearm-related offenses and assaulting an officer. She noted that additional charges might follow as the investigation continues.
Pirro added that the suspect is set to appear in federal district court on Monday as the legal proceedings move ahead. Authorities reported that the suspect was armed with multiple weapons, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
