“Punjab Kings Bench Shashank Singh Following Series of Fielding Blunders”

Punjab Kings’ Shashank Singh Struggles in the Field Against Delhi Capitals

Shashank Singh had a tough outing during the match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Unfortunately, he dropped an easy catch of KL Rahul near the boundary and later missed another fielding opportunity while trying to catch the ball. This disappointing performance continued from his last game, where he dropped three catches against Lucknow Super Giants.

During the match on April 25, Punjab Kings’ coach Ricky Ponting decided to substitute Shashank after the two mishaps. His first error came in the third over when KL Rahul attempted a big shot off Arshdeep Singh. Positioned at mid-wicket, Shashank tried to catch the ball using an unusual technique but ended up dropping it.

Shortly after, he mishandled another chance at the boundary, allowing the ball to slip through his fingers and roll to the fence for four runs. Following this incident, he was replaced by young player Suryansh Shedge.

When asked about the team’s fielding standards, coach Ricky Ponting acknowledged the team’s high expectations. “We have set ourselves high standards. We were good most of the time, but today we struggled again, just like in our last game,” he commented.

As expected, fans took to social media to share their thoughts, with many jokes about Shashank’s performance. One user humorously suggested he should stay out of sight from Ponting for a while, saying, “Oh Shashank, just hide from Ponting for a couple of days, man. It’s just not your day!”

In the previous match at Mullanpur, Ponting had expressed his frustration with repeated drop catches, though his team had secured a significant victory against Rishabh Pant’s side. Sadly, the fielding errors in this game allowed KL Rahul to score a quick fifty in just 26 balls, and Nitish Rana also raced to his fifty as Delhi Capitals reached 142 runs in just 12 overs.

Going into this match, Punjab Kings had a strong record in the IPL 2026 season, having won five of their six matches, with one match lost to rain.
