Upcoming Animal Health Intelligence Summit in Kansas

MANHATTAN, Kan. — On April 29, experts from across Kansas, including leading veterinarians and researchers, will convene in Council Grove for the Animal Health Intelligence Summit. The event aims to discuss strategies to protect livestock and promote advancements in animal health.

This important summit is being organized by Kansas State University’s Institute for Digital Agriculture and Advanced Analytics (ID3A) in collaboration with the National Agricultural Biosecurity Center (NABC). It’s open to cattle producers, veterinarians, researchers, and industry stakeholders.

Event Details:

  • Date: April 29
  • Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a prime rib dinner at 5 p.m.
  • Location: HP Spur, a new educational facility in Council Grove.

Attendance and dinner are free, but registration is essential. Interested participants must register by April 22 at 5 p.m.

Key Topics of Discussion

During the summit, livestock leaders will receive timely updates from experts at the Kansas Department of Agriculture and K-State’s Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology. They will cover emerging animal health threats and important issues affecting the cattle industry. Additionally, the NABC will present new research and tools to help the industry remain resilient and make informed decisions.

Justin Smith, the animal health commissioner for Kansas, emphasizes, “The cattle industry is crucial to Kansas agriculture. The health of our cattle is vital, and we rely on research to understand animal diseases better.”

A major focus of the event will be on foreign animal diseases (FADs), which pose significant threats to the U.S. cattle industry. Leaders from Decision Innovation Solutions will present a simulation of a cattle supply outbreak to encourage discussion on the potential impacts and preventive measures.

This summit represents a significant opportunity for those involved in the cattle industry to gain valuable insights and collaborate on future strategies.
