Ex-Pakistan Cricketer Predicts Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Will Steal the Spotlight from Abhishek Sharma

Rising Star Vaibhav Suryavanshi Could Eclipse Established Players, Says Tanveer Ahmed

In an intriguing statement, former Pakistan cricketer Tanveer Ahmed has suggested that emerging talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi might outshine seasoned players like Abhishek Sharma. Speaking during the ongoing IPL 2026 season, Tanveer highlighted Suryavanshi’s bold and fearless playing style, which he believes could make the young player a focal point when he joins the Indian team.

Tanveer stated, “Once Suryavanshi plays for India, he will draw attention away from Abhishek Sharma. Even when they’re batting together, Suryavanshi will be the one people notice.” He further emphasized that fans might become so engrossed in Suryavanshi’s performance that they might overlook Abhishek altogether.

However, the former pacer tempered his comments by acknowledging the unpredictability of a player’s career over time. “I can’t predict how Suryavanshi will perform in the next 10 years. My comments are based on the present,” he explained.

At just 15 years old, Suryavanshi, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals, has emerged as one of the standout players this season. Leading the Orange Cap race, he has accumulated 200 runs in just four innings. His impressive performance includes a remarkable 78 runs in only 26 balls against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, showcasing his ability to tackle world-class bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood with surprising confidence.

On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma remains a key figure in India’s T20 setup. Despite a mixed outing during the T20 World Cup, he consistently contributed, scoring half-centuries against teams like Zimbabwe and New Zealand. Entering IPL 2026, he recently performed well with a solid 74 runs against Punjab Kings, bringing his total runs to 182 for the season so far.

While Tanveer’s remarks have sparked considerable discussion, drawing comparisons at this stage might be a bit premature. Abhishek currently holds the top spot in the ICC T20I rankings and has reliably delivered impressive performances. Suryavanshi undoubtedly represents a unique talent, yet it remains to be seen if he can maintain this high level in the future.

Stay tuned for more updates on the IPL 2026 season!
