Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has shared exciting details about his upcoming movie, Pralay, which stars the talented Ranveer Singh. This film, steeped in suspense and intrigue, is set in a vast post-apocalyptic world. According to Mehta, the idea for Pralay has been in the works for quite a while.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Mehta revealed that the project was first conceived by filmmaker Jai Mehta. Jai had been developing the concept independently before Ranveer became interested. “Jai had been working on this for a long time,” Mehta explained. Once Ranveer saw Jai’s work, he reached out, and the two collaborated. “When Ranveer expressed his interest, we really dove into developing the world Jai envisioned for the film.”
Describing the scale of Pralay, Mehta emphasized its groundbreaking nature for Indian cinema. He noted, “This is a post-apocalyptic setting that hasn’t been tackled at this level in India before.” He explained that the development process goes beyond just writing the script; it involves shaping visual elements and presenting them effectively to studios and stars. “We’ve dedicated time to build those ideas,” he shared.
Amidst rumors that the film might be based on existing books, Mehta clarified that Pralay is an original story. “It’s not an adaptation,” he stated. He mentioned that Jai and Vishal Kapoor have crafted the story. He added that adapting novels like Saramago’s Blindness can be quite challenging, suggesting that some stories are best appreciated in their written form.
Mehta also highlighted that the film’s success hinges on how authentically its world is brought to life. “The depth of Jai’s film will rest on its ability to immerse the audience,” he explained. “Creating a believable post-apocalyptic environment is key. We’re collaborating with top talents worldwide to achieve this, all while keeping costs manageable compared to Hollywood standards.”
With its ambitious storyline and focus on deep storytelling, Pralay is set to make a significant impact in the realm of innovative Indian cinema.
