Tiger Woods Steps Away from Golf for Health Reasons
American golf star Tiger Woods announced on Tuesday that he will be taking a break from the sport to focus on his health. This news comes shortly after he was arrested in Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence following a car crash.
The incident involved a rollover crash close to his home in Jupiter Island last week. The 50-year-old golfer was taken into custody but was later released on bail without any reported injuries from the accident.
In a statement shared on social media, Woods expressed that he recognizes the seriousness of his situation and needs time to address it. “I understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a while to seek treatment and focus on my health,” he wrote. Woods emphasized that this step is crucial for him to prioritize his well-being and work toward long-term recovery.
Court documents revealed that Woods has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charges and is seeking a jury trial. His next court date is set for May 5, but he is not required to attend any preliminary proceedings.
According to the investigation report, Woods told officials he was distracted by his phone and the car radio when the crash happened, failing to notice a vehicle that was slowing down in front of him. Officers at the scene noted signs of impairment, describing him as lethargic and unsteady. Prescription medication was found on him, and he admitted to taking some earlier that day.
This news comes just as Woods had made a comeback to competitive golf after a long injury layoff. He had recently participated in the TGL Finals, which involves less physical strain than regular tour events. Woods was also looking forward to the upcoming Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, but following his announcement, the club confirmed that he would not be attending.
Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, stated, “We fully support Tiger Woods as he focuses on his well-being.” Woods has requested privacy as he navigates this difficult time, expressing his commitment to return in a healthier and more focused state.
