CSK’s Struggles Highlighted by Former Cricketer Piyush Chawla
In a recent match, former cricketer Piyush Chawla criticized the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for their poor performance against the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026. CSK faced a disappointing eight-wicket defeat at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, and Chawla didn’t hold back in his remarks.
Chawla noted that the Super Kings seemed out of sorts and unprepared, especially after Dewald Brevis was sidelined due to injury. He felt Sarfaraz Khan should have been given more opportunity to shine. Sarfaraz was brought in as an Impact Sub when CSK was struggling at 19 for three, scoring 17 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.
Chawla, who played for CSK in 2020, suggested that Sarfaraz should have batted higher up the order and even been included in the starting lineup from the beginning. “CSK looked really confused,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “When there’s a lack of clarity, these kinds of things can happen.”
During the match, CSK struggled significantly, getting bowled out for just 127 runs in 19.4 overs. They were in serious danger of falling below the 100-run mark, but Jamie Overton’s solid 43 off 36 balls helped stabilize the score.
In response, the Rajasthan Royals easily chased down the target with 47 balls to spare, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi leading the charge and scoring a remarkable 52 off just 17 balls.
CSK will be looking to regroup as they prepare to face Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings on Friday, April 3, in their first home match of the season at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
