Mumbai Indians Fans Excited About Akash Madhwal’s Return

Fans of the Mumbai Indians are buzzing with excitement after seeing Akash Madhwal back on the training ground with the team as they gear up for the IPL 2026 season. Many supporters are curious if Madhwal might be stepping in as a replacement for senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Madhwal played for the Mumbai Indians in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, taking an impressive 19 wickets in just 13 matches. His standout performance was a remarkable five-wicket haul against the Gujarat Titans in 2023, which marked his breakout year. After his time with MI, Madhwal joined the Rajasthan Royals but managed to play only four games last season before being released. Unfortunately, he went unsold in the 2026 auction but recently tried out with KKR as they look for a backup for Harshit Rana.

In a recent training session, Madhwal was spotted reuniting with his former captain, Rohit Sharma, expressing his admiration in a heartwarming moment that fans loved to see. However, many are now speculating whether Madhwal is on standby to step in for Bumrah.

What About Bumrah?

As the Mumbai Indians prepare for their first match against KKR, Bumrah made a trip to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. According to a report, his visit is part of a planned strategy to manage his workload effectively.

The BCCI’s medical team has set up a specific strength and conditioning program for Bumrah at the Centre of Excellence. The goal is to ensure he is in top shape for India’s important upcoming tour to England, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs.

Although Bumrah has been training actively in Bengaluru and continues to work on his skills, he hasn’t rejoined the Mumbai Indians squad yet. It seems he may miss the opener against KKR on March 30. The team is also facing another setback with player Atharva Ankolekar sidelined. It remains unclear whether Madhwal will serve as a net bowler or be included in the main team as Bumrah’s replacement.

Stay tuned for more updates as the IPL 2026 season unfolds!
