Bermuda Risk Summit 2026 Highlights Global Changes and Needs for Stability

Hamilton, Bermuda – At the opening of the Bermuda Risk Summit 2026, David Burt, the Premier and Minister of Finance, emphasized the importance of stable regions like Bermuda in today’s rapidly changing world.

Addressing attendees at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess & Club, Mr. Burt aligned the summit’s theme, “Building What Is Next,” with the current global landscape. He noted that conflicts in regions such as the Middle East are affecting shipping and energy markets, which, in turn, is straining his financial plans.

He also cited ongoing tensions in Ukraine, shifting trade practices, and the impacts of climate change as significant factors that complicate the economic environment. “Communities and economies globally are facing increased challenges, making it harder to secure insurance,” he pointed out, highlighting the gap between economic losses and insured recoveries.

Mr. Burt stressed the need for businesses to have reliable locations like Bermuda, which inspire confidence and provide a foundation for long-term planning. “Companies require places that will help maintain stability and promote clear decision-making,” he explained, underscoring how Bermuda has been fulfilling this role for many years.

The Premier’s remarks focused on the pressing question of whether the insurance industry can adapt to the rising levels of risk. “That is the purpose of this summit, which fosters valuable discussions among all participants,” he added.

He also highlighted Bermuda’s unique ability to bring together global expertise, which helps in fostering responsible innovations while maintaining a steady regulatory environment for international businesses.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the summit, organized by the Bermuda Business Development Agency, and it will continue for the next two days, bringing together leaders and experts to address these crucial issues.
