New Study Proposes Future for U.S.-Israel Relations Focused on Technology

A new report is urging Israel’s security and technology sectors to adapt their strategies following recent conflicts, aiming to enhance the long-term partnership between the U.S. and Israel. Titled “Israel 2048: A Blueprint for a Rising Asymmetric Geopolitical Power,” the study highlights the importance of aligning American and Israeli security interests in today’s evolving global landscape.

Co-author Barak M. Seener emphasizes that Israel is key to maintaining U.S. security, especially through initiatives like the Abraham Accords. He believes that enhancing technological cooperation can strengthen both nations against growing challenges, particularly from countries like China.

The report underlines the necessity for Israel to move away from its reliance on military aid and instead focus on joint research and development in areas such as defense technologies, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing. To safeguard these advancements, it also suggests creating strict regulations for technology sharing, especially to prevent leaks to countries like China.

Seener noted that Israel is becoming a significant military player not just regionally but on the global stage by enhancing trade routes and digital connections. “Israel can no longer afford to remain on the defensive,” he stated, advocating for a more proactive military strategy.

Following Israel’s recent military successes against Iran, Seener believes that the U.S. is eager to participate in Israel’s achievements, marking a historic shift in their military relationship.

The report stresses that Israel’s defense technologies are essential for Western nations. It proposes that the U.S. integrate Israel as a critical partner in defense and technology to bolster global security and technological competitiveness.

The study also calls attention to the need for Israel to ramp up its domestic production of military systems. This is particularly crucial given the uncertain support from European allies, as demonstrated by recent decisions from the UK government.

In summary, the study outlines a vision where Israel utilizes its technological strengths to forge deeper alliances and enhance its geopolitical influence worldwide. Seener concludes that while Israel may not be a superpower, it serves as a crucial ally, providing significant advantages to its partners in defense and technology.
