Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and his family are making exciting plans to revive the iconic RK Studios by leasing five floors in a commercial building in Andheri East, Mumbai, for 20 years. This move, confirmed by various sources, marks a significant comeback for a brand that once played a major role in Hindi cinema.
The original RK Studios, established by Ranbir’s grandfather, the late Raj Kapoor, was located in Chembur but was sold in 2018 after a fire and maintenance issues. This new space is seen as a fresh beginning, aiming to restore the studio’s legacy in a contemporary environment. Reports indicate that the five-floor area at Kanakia Wall Street will be transformed into a modern production and creative hub, featuring sound stages for virtual production, editing suites, screening rooms, VFX facilities, and offices for the Kapoor family’s creative team. There are also plans for hospitality areas and storage for the studio’s rich history and memorabilia.
Although the financial details of the lease remain undisclosed, sources suggest that work could start by mid-2026, pending the necessary approvals. The facility is expected to accommodate multiple film and advertising shoots at the same time, making it a strong contender among Mumbai’s production spaces.
This revival coincides with growing interest in Ranbir Kapoor’s creative pursuits, with hints that the new studio might become the base for his future directing projects. Observers believe this initiative not only pays homage to RK Studios’ prestigious past but also serves as a strategic move for the future of Indian cinema.
