Man Charged After Damaging Brisbane Synagogue
A man has been charged for reportedly causing damage to the well-known Brisbane Synagogue in Australia on Friday night. The accused, a 32-year-old from Sunnybank, faces several charges, including willful damage, possible hate crime, dangerous vehicle operation, and possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia, according to the Queensland Police.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:15 p.m. local time when a black Toyota Hilux truck crashed into the synagogue’s gates on Margaret Street and then fled the scene. Police quickly located the vehicle and arrested the driver without incident.
Fortunately, no one was injured during this troubling event. The suspect, believed to have acted alone, is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday. Authorities have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to community safety.
