Clash Breaks Out in Kolkata, Two Injured and Multiple Arrests Made
Kolkata faced a violent incident on Sunday night that resulted in injuries and arrests. According to police reports, two individuals were hurt during a clash between two groups in the Golpark area, which falls under the Rabindra Sarobar Police Station jurisdiction.
The conflict erupted around 8:30 PM on Kankulia Road, when a group of young people from outside the area confronted local residents. In the ensuing chaos, stones were thrown, and crude bombs were detonated, leading to panic among those nearby. The police reported that at least one bullet was fired, and empty cartridges, along with other debris, were found in the aftermath.
By early Monday morning, police had arrested ten individuals connected to the incident, and they have launched further operations to capture others involved. A police spokesperson confirmed that order has since been restored, but described the scene during the altercation as chaotic, with a mob vandalizing several parked motorcycles and even attempting to target police vehicles.
To ensure safety, a large number of police officers were deployed to the area. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify other participants in the clash. Local community members expressed concern that the violence may have been an effort to assert dominance over the neighborhood.
In light of these events, a local leader from the Trinamool Congress visited the scene, promising strict action against those creating disturbances and jeopardizing public safety. The investigation is ongoing as police work to uncover more details about the incident.
