China Denounces US Cuba Sanctions as Breach of Global Law

China Criticizes U.S. Pressure on Cuba

China has spoken out against the United States’ pressure on Cuba, claiming that it goes against international law. The Chinese government is asking the U.S. to lift its long-standing embargo and sanctions on the island nation.

In a statement posted on social media by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials expressed concern over the situation. They emphasized the need for the U.S. to stop denying the Cuban people their basic rights and disrupting peace in the region.

China has often backed smaller communist nations, like Cuba and Venezuela, when they feel threatened by foreign powers. This latest comment was shared through China’s embassy in the U.S.

Despite there being no naval blockade currently in place, U.S. officials have said it remains an option if necessary. Tensions have risen recently due to the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, which has affected Cuba’s access to Venezuelan oil.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that his government is not in talks with the U.S., despite pressure from the Trump administration, which is looking for ways to negotiate a deal that could lead to changes in Cuba’s leadership.

In June, Trump signed a memorandum tightening U.S. policy towards Cuba, which included stricter sanctions and travel bans. These actions are seen as part of a broader strategy to exert pressure on the Cuban government.

The situation continues to develop, as both nations grapple with their complex and often tense relationship.
