Fog Delays Four Vijay Hazare Trophy Matches in Jaipur
In Jaipur, four matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy were postponed on Tuesday morning due to thick fog. Esteemed players like Shubman Gill, the captain of India’s ODI team, and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer were all set to play in the domestic 50-over tournament, but weather conditions caused a significant disruption.
Reports indicate that visibility was drastically reduced, making it impossible to start the matches safely. Early on Tuesday, dense fog blanketed the city, leaving visibility nearly at zero, compounded by the ongoing chilly weather.
Gill’s team, Punjab, was supposed to compete against Goa at KL Saini Ground, while Iyer’s Mumbai was to play Himachal Pradesh at Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground. Despite the weather setback, Gill and his teammates began their warm-up routines around 10 AM IST as visibility started to improve. Ground staff were also working diligently to prepare the field for play.
The Punjab Cricket Association humorously shared on social media that the toss had been delayed due to the fog, noting they were waiting for images from the venue. They mentioned that their photographer was en route, grappling with the poor visibility conditions.
At the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground, the Mumbai coaching staff was busy checking the pitch and playing surface. To stay warm in the brisk cold, some ground staff even lit small fires nearby.
Additionally, Chhattisgarh was set to face Maharashtra at Anantam Ground, while Sikkim was to play against Uttarakhand at Dr. Soni Stadium. All four matches had a scheduled toss at 9 AM, yet even after an hour, there was no indication that play would commence.
Stay tuned for further updates on the matches as conditions evolve.
