Antim Panghal Shines at 2025 Senior National Wrestling Championship

Antim Panghal, a two-time world championship medallist, clinched the gold medal in the women’s 55kg category at the 2025 Senior National Wrestling Championship. This win is particularly special for her as it marks her successful transition from the 53kg to the 55kg weight class. The tournament kicked off with all ten women’s weight categories, and the outcomes are crucial for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games and the Olympic cycle.

Haryana’s women’s team stood out, showcasing their dominance in the sport. On the opening day, Antim Panghal, representing RSPB, excelled in the 55kg category. Other impressive performances included Manisha, who secured gold in the 57kg division, and Nisha Dahiya, who won in the 68kg class. Anjali from Rajasthan took home the title in the 53kg category, while Rajnita and Pulkit, also from Haryana, claimed gold in the 59kg and 65kg categories. Diksha from SSCB won the 72kg gold, and Priya Malik earned silver in the 76kg event after a close final against Haryana’s Jyoti Berwal.

Former world bronze medallist Mansi rounded out the day by finishing third in the 62kg category, further highlighting her consistent performance in national events. The competition showcased a wealth of talent, with many top athletes earning spots on the podium across various categories.

In terms of team standings, Haryana led the women’s competition with 190 points, underscoring their depth and strength. RSPB followed in second with 144 points, while Delhi secured third place with 112 points. This competitive landscape illustrates the ongoing rivalry among leading teams.

The importance of the 2025 Nationals has increased with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) being reinstated earlier this year. The results from this championship will play a significant role in selecting talent for national camps and trials, crucial for international representation in the coming year.

Coaches and teams strategically deployed a mix of veteran competitors and rising stars across all categories, providing selectors with a diverse talent pool as they prepare for the major international competitions ahead.

As the championship unfolds, attention will shift to the men’s freestyle events scheduled for Saturday, where Paris Olympic bronze medallist Aman will look to make his mark in the 61kg category, drawing keen interest from fans and selectors alike.

The successful start for Haryana’s women’s team and significant achievements by individual athletes like Antim Panghal set an exciting tone for the rest of the championship.
