Two Afghan teenage asylum seekers have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to the rape of a 15-year-old girl in a Leamington park in Warwickshire, UK.

The incident occurred on May 10, when the victim was with friends. She met Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal, who persuaded her to take a walk with them. They led her to a secluded area in Newbold Comyn park, where they assaulted her.

Following the attack, the victim was able to call for help from a passerby, who alerted local authorities. Police investigated the case using CCTV footage and photos the girl had taken earlier that day, which led to the arrest of the two suspects.

At a youth court in Coventry, both 17-year-olds admitted to the charges. During their sentencing at Warwick Crown Court, it was revealed that they are Afghan asylum seekers. Jahanzeb received a sentence of 10 years and eight months, while Niazal was sentenced to nine years and 10 months. They will initially serve their time in a Young Offenders’ Institution before being transferred to adult facilities.

Both men were placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and issued restraining orders.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Hobbs commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward. He stated that the investigation was handled by specially trained officers who provided support throughout the process. He emphasized that the length of the sentences reflects the seriousness of the crimes and the importance of public safety.

DCI Hobbs also expressed hope that this case would encourage other victims of sexual violence to come forward, assuring them that their reports would be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.
