Wrestling Federation of India Lifts Suspensions of Wrestlers Aman Sehrawat and Neha Sangwan
On Friday, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) announced that the suspensions of Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat and junior wrestler Neha Sangwan have been lifted. Both athletes were previously suspended due to weight issues during major international competitions earlier this year.
With the suspensions lifted, Aman and Neha are now eligible to participate in the upcoming Pro Wrestling League (PWL) auctions. Aman was suspended after being overweight at the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, in September. Neha faced similar consequences following her disqualification at the Junior Worlds in Samokov, Bulgaria, in August.
The WFI had issued show-cause notices to both wrestlers—Aman on September 22 and Neha on August 25. The athletes provided their explanations, which were reviewed by the federation.
The WFI Disciplinary Committee met on November 13 to discuss their responses. It acknowledged both wrestlers’ strong performance records on the international stage and recommended a lenient approach, given this was their first violation.
WFI President Sanjay Kumar Singh accepted this recommendation and officially removed their suspensions, allowing them to compete in future events. However, the federation reminded the wrestlers that any further issues concerning weight or discipline could result in stricter punishments.
