Filmmaker Kanu Behl is eagerly anticipating the release of his film Agra, set for November 14. However, he is facing challenges in securing sufficient showings in multiplexes, which has disappointed him. Taking to social media, Behl expressed his frustration, stating, “We’re being denied shows because of the dominance of big blockbusters, and small films are often left out of the multiplex schedules. It’s up to you, the audience! Let the cinema chains know you want to see this film!”
In a follow-up message, Behl shared his worries about the shrinking space for unique cinema. He urged supporters to spread the word, emphasizing that without audience backing, the chance for diverse storytelling could vanish.
When a follower suggested looking for smaller theaters to screen Agra, Behl responded that the issue is much bigger than just finding limited spaces, stressing the importance of reclaiming visibility for films like his.
Earlier reports noted that Agra underwent cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before receiving an ‘A’ rating. Changes included altering a frontal nudity scene and removing explicit visuals. After these adjustments, the film was approved with a runtime of 115 minutes.
Agra features debut actor Mohit Agarwal alongside a talented cast, including Rahul Roy, Priyanka Bose, and Ruhani Sharma. The narrative follows a young man coping with sexual repression while dealing with complex family dynamics in a small home in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
