Iranian Plot to Target Israeli Ambassador in Mexico Thwarted
Officials announced on Friday that a plan by Iran to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico has been successfully intercepted. The effort, which reportedly began in late 2022, was tied to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Israeli foreign ministry expressed gratitude towards Mexican security and law enforcement agencies for stopping this terrorist scheme. They emphasized their ongoing commitment to work with international partners to protect Israeli and Jewish interests from threats posed by Iran and its affiliates.
A U.S. official mentioned that the situation regarding ambassador Einat Kranz Neiger is under control and currently does not pose a risk. The official described the incident as part of a troubling pattern of Iran’s attacks on diplomats, journalists, and dissenters, warning that this should concern every nation where Iran has a presence.
The details surrounding the plot remain unclear, but last year, security forces in the UK and Sweden alerted the public about Iran’s use of criminal groups for similar operations, with Britain stating it had disrupted 20 Iranian-linked plots since 2022.
This incident underlines the ongoing tensions and safety concerns surrounding diplomatic figures amid international instability.
