Rohit Sharma’s Preparation for Australia Tour: Insights from Abhishek Nayar

Abhishek Nayar recently shared how Rohit Sharma got ready for the upcoming ODI series in Australia. After being away from international cricket following the Champions Trophy, Rohit started his training back in August, focusing on improving his fitness. Nayar was seen working with Rohit as he aimed to shed some weight.

They began with a training session at Shivaji Park, with Nayar present to guide Rohit. According to Nayar, Rohit’s training was well-structured over three months, emphasizing fitness at first.

“Initially, our primary goal was to improve his fitness and help him lose a few kilos. By the end, he lost more than expected and got himself in great shape. In the last five weeks, we shifted our focus to match fitness,” Nayar explained.

Rohit also participated in match simulations where they aimed to mimic the playing conditions he would face in Australia. Nayar noted how important it is to be fully prepared despite Rohit’s vast international experience.

“He spent a lot of time in the nets to regain his rhythm and batting fitness. We worked on simulating match scenarios, trying to recreate the situations he would encounter in Australia,” Nayar said.

To prepare Rohit, they used pitches in Mumbai known for their pace and bounce, facing bowlers similar to Australia’s tall pacers like Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

“We tried to make the practice as realistic as possible, facing bowlers who can deliver that extra bounce and pace. While conditions in Australia are unique, we aimed to replicate them here,” Nayar added.

Despite extensive practice, Nayar emphasized that real experience is invaluable once you’re in the game. He expressed excitement about Rohit’s return and looked forward to seeing him perform well for India.

As he arrived in Perth, Rohit showed promise by engaging in an intense training session and appeared to be in excellent form.
