India’s Batting Lineup Takes Shape: Amol Muzumdar Reflects After Australia’s Victory

India’s coach, Amol Muzumdar, has stated that his team has a solid batting lineup and will avoid making too many changes, especially after their recent loss to Australia in Vizag on October 13. Following a strong opening partnership of 155 runs between Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, India decided to maintain their traditional batting order by sending in Harleen Deol next. Although they could have chosen a power-hitter for the number three spot, they opted for Harleen, who scored 38 runs off 42 balls.

Late Collapse Costs India

Unfortunately, India faced a dramatic decline in their batting, slipping from 294 for five to being bowled out for 330 in just over five overs. This performance led to a disappointing three-wicket loss against Australia. In post-match comments, Muzumdar emphasized that while they prefer stability in the batting lineup, they are open to flexibility when necessary.

“I believe we have a well-settled batting order, so I don’t want to make too many changes. However, we can adjust when needed. We also have the option of sending in Richa or Deepti Sharma, who could provide some variety and are effective in scoring singles,” he said.

Focus on Finishing Strong

Muzumdar pointed out the importance of finishing matches effectively with both bat and ball. He noted that the team’s performance against Australia and South Africa showcased their struggle to conclude games successfully.

“I always stress the importance of a good finish in cricket. While getting a strong start is crucial, finishing well is even more important. Look at our recent games — we lost focus in crucial moments,” Muzumdar said.

He mentioned that gaining an extra 20 runs in the recent match might have made a positive difference. Still, he emphasized that the team is learning and slowly making progress.

Looking ahead, India will face England on October 19, a match that offers them another opportunity to improve.
