Actor and producer Sohum Shah has announced an exciting partnership between his production company, Sohum Shah Films, and Dr. Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios for the eagerly awaited sequel to Tumbbad, titled Tumbbad 2. This sequel aims to dive deeper into the captivating and eerie world that fans loved in the original film.
The first Tumbbad film was released in 2018 and received high praise for its unique mix of mythology, fantasy, and horror—something rare in Indian cinema. It quickly became a sleeper hit and gained a dedicated following, particularly after being re-released in theaters in 2024. Today, it is celebrated as one of the most iconic Indian genre films in recent times.
With Tumbbad 2, the creators plan to explore richer themes in the story’s mythology and atmosphere. Production is set to kick off in early 2026, with Pen Studios, known for major titles like RRR and Gangubai Kathiawadi, backing the project.
Sohum Shah expressed his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “I’ve admired Jayantilal Gada’s work for a long time. When we discussed Tumbbad 2, he sealed the deal within five minutes. That kind of trust is what every storyteller dreams of. His belief in Tumbbad made me feel that the film finally got the recognition it deserved.” Meanwhile, Dr. Gada shared his thoughts on the project, emphasizing that Tumbbad was a cinematic treasure that made a lasting impact. He is optimistic that Tumbbad 2 will once more capture the hearts of viewers.
Directed by Aadesh Prasad, Tumbbad 2 looks to build on the legacy of its predecessor while introducing new narrative elements to its cinematic universe. With the creative talent of Sohum Shah Films and Pen Studios combined, the sequel is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Indian films in its genre.
