India’s Focus on Asia Cup Clash with Pakistan Amidst Tensions
As India prepares for its crucial Asia Cup match against Pakistan, players are mindful of the public feelings following the recent attack in Pahalgam. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has encouraged the team to keep their focus on the game, as shared by assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate on Saturday.
In their first match against the UAE, India opted for a spin-heavy strategy, fielding three spin bowlers and only one recognized fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. All-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube provided some pace, but India missed left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh, who has been outstanding in T20 internationals.
The team management is inclined to maintain the winning lineup, yet many fans are eager to see Arshdeep back in action for the highly anticipated match in Dubai. His inclusion could boost the pace attack but might require sitting out Dube, who performed well against the UAE.
Kuldeep Yadav is likely to keep his spot after his impressive four-wicket performance against the UAE, while Varun Chakravarthy, despite bowling just two overs, has proved effective in similar conditions before.
Ten Doeschate suggested that changes to the lineup are unlikely. “We believe the combination that played in the first game is the right one,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of a consistent strategy.
The batting order is expected to remain steady, with Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill opening. Captain Suryakumar Yadav will bat at number three, and Tilak Varma adds flexibility in the top order. Sanju Samson is set to keep wicket and help anchor the middle order alongside Pandya and Dube, while Axar Patel offers depth with his option to bat higher if necessary.
