BWF World Championships 2025: PV Sindhu’s Bid for Sixth Medal Ends in Quarterfinals

PV Sindhu’s Dream of Sixth World Championship Medal Ends in Quarterfinals

In a heart-wrenching match on August 29, PV Sindhu faced a tough defeat against Indonesia’s Putri Wardani in the quarterfinals of the World Championships held in Paris. The two-time Olympic medalist put up a brave fight, but ultimately fell short in a thrilling encounter at the Adidas Arena.

Sindhu, who was aiming to make history by becoming the first female player to win six medals at this prestigious event, started strong but couldn’t maintain her momentum. After losing the first game 14-21, she rallied back to take the second game 21-13, pushing the match to a deciding game. However, the 23-year-old Wardani proved too strong, clinching the final game 21-16.

This loss is especially disappointing for Sindhu, who had dazzled fans with a remarkable performance just a day earlier, where she upset World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi from China. After a tough year that saw her miss the podium at the Olympics for the first time, Sindhu’s efforts in Paris hinted that she still has plenty to give to the sport.

The match lasted over an hour, showcasing the skill and grit from both players, but it was not meant to be for Sindhu on this occasion.

More updates to follow.
