Diamond League in Zurich: Armand Duplantis Secures Fifth Consecutive Title Despite No Record

Duplantis Triumphs Again at Zurich Diamond League Final

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis continued to impress in the world of men’s pole vault, winning the Diamond League final held in Zurich on Wednesday, August 27. While he didn’t break any records this time, the Olympic and world champion proved once more why he is the athlete to beat in this sport.

Duplantis started strong, easily clearing heights of 5.50m, 5.80m, 5.90m, and reaching 6.00m. His attempt to beat the meet record of 6.08m didn’t succeed, but his steady performance was enough to secure first place without much difficulty.

The competition was fierce. Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis gave Duplantis a run for his money, keeping pace for much of the event before ultimately finishing in second place. American Sam Kendricks, who took silver at the recent Paris Olympics, claimed third after managing to clear 5.80m but failing at the higher heights of 5.90m and 6.00m.

With this victory, Duplantis added his fifth Diamond League trophy to his collection, inching closer to a record set by French pole vault legend Renaud Lavillenie and American triple jumper Christian Taylor, who each have seven titles.

Just a couple of weeks prior, Duplantis had set a new world record by vaulting 6.29m in Budapest, solidifying his status as a leading figure in the sport. Although he didn’t achieve a similar feat in Zurich, he embraced the event and recognized that not every competition ends in a record-setting performance.

“I am a human being; I don’t break world records every day. Some days I feel good, and others not so much,” Duplantis shared. “Today was average for me. I truly enjoy events like this. Now with five Diamond trophies, I’m closing in on Renaud Lavillenie’s seven.”

With another title under his belt, Duplantis is not only on the verge of making history but also exemplifies that even on an off day, he remains a top competitor in athletics.
