Zelenskyy Expected to Wear Formal Attire for Meeting with Trump in D.C.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with former President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., on Monday. A prominent designer, Elvira Gasanova, who has worked with Zelenskyy, suggests he will likely adopt a more formal appearance for this significant meeting.
Gasanova noted, “Tomorrow he probably won’t show up in a polo shirt. Instead, he might choose a black military suit or a military-style shirt with trousers—maybe a jacket as well.” This change in wardrobe comes after Zelenskyy faced criticism for his casual style during previous high-level engagements.
Zelenskyy’s informal attire has drawn attention before, particularly during a tense meeting in February where a reporter questioned why he didn’t wear a suit, emphasizing the nature of his role. This time, Gasanova believes he will opt for a more serious look while maintaining some simplicity.
Adding weight to the occasion, several European leaders will also attend the meeting, showcasing their support for Ukraine amid ongoing tensions with Russia.
Zelenskyy has previously faced questions about his lack of personal stylists, with Gasanova indicating that while she has designed various outfits for him, the time constraints of his role often limit fittings.
In the backdrop of Russia’s continuous military actions, the pressures have taken a noticeable toll on Zelenskyy, including weight fluctuations. Gasanova mentioned that while he has lost weight during stressful periods, he is focused on rebuilding his strength through regular exercise.
As the meeting approaches, Zelenskyy is currently in Brussels and will decide what to wear for the upcoming discussion with Trump, which follows Trump’s recent talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Both the White House and Zelenskyy’s office have yet to respond to inquiries about the meeting.
