In a dynamic breakfast meeting with around 100 leaders from various industries, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized Bengaluru’s status as India’s top tech hub. This event, organized by the Department of Electronics, IT & BT, served as a kickoff for the upcoming Bengaluru Tech Summit, scheduled for November 18 to 20.

During the breakfast, Siddaramaiah encouraged business leaders to consider investing in Karnataka, stating, “We are the best place for entrepreneurs to start and scale globally.” He highlighted that Bengaluru ranks fifth among the world’s leading AI hubs and is home to almost half of India’s AI talent, positioning the city as a major player in this field. The Chief Minister shared that the state’s new IT policy will further bolster the growth of artificial intelligence.

Siddaramaiah reflected on Karnataka’s history of embracing technology, from the Mysuru kings to the establishment of the first IT policy in 1997 and the introduction of the Global Capability Centre Policy in 2024. He noted the state’s pivotal role in technological advancements.

On the topic of quantum technology, the CM mentioned that Karnataka is the first state in India to launch a dedicated Quantum Technology Roadmap. The goal is to transform the state into Asia’s leading innovation center in this field by 2035, targeting a $20 billion quantum economy. Plans include creating Quantum Hardware Parks and hosting a global Quantum Conclave in Bengaluru.

Milestones highlighted included that Karnataka contributes 44% of India’s software exports and that the IT and ITeS sectors account for 26% of the state’s economy. With over 875 Global Capability Centres already established, the state aims to add 500 more by 2029, which would create 350,000 jobs and generate $50 billion in economic output.

The Chief Minister also shared plans to expand tech initiatives beyond Bengaluru by developing new innovation clusters and nurturing a robust startup ecosystem, which currently boasts over 18,300 startups and 45 unicorns.

Among the key projects discussed was KWIN City, envisioned as a comprehensive hub focused on wellness, innovation, and future industries, aimed at attracting global talent and investors. Additionally, a proposed Health City aims to be a premier healthcare and life sciences center, integrating advanced medical research, biotech innovation, and specialized hospitals serving both local and international patients.
