Callidus Legal AI Secures $10M to Develop Smart Assistant for Litigators — TFN

The legal industry, often seen as slow to embrace technology, is at a pivotal moment. With rising pressures to cut costs and boost productivity, many traditional tasks in litigation remain incredibly time-consuming. Legal professionals spend countless hours on tasks like researching precedents, drafting documents, and reviewing case files, often using outdated methods that haven’t changed much over the years.

This inefficiency goes beyond just being a productivity concern. Goldman Sachs suggests that 44% of the massive $1 trillion global legal market is ready for automation. However, until recently, available solutions were mostly limited to chatbots and basic tools that provided generic responses, lacking the detail and precision that real litigators require.

Enter Callidus Legal AI, a company focused on closing this gap. In 2025, it tripled its recurring revenue, showing the strong demand for meaningful change in the legal field. Its technology can cut down weeks of legal work into mere minutes, all without sacrificing quality, positioning Callidus as a leader in the future of legal technology.

Secured $10M in Funding for Growth

To accelerate its rapid growth, Callidus Legal AI, based in McKinney, has successfully secured a $10 million funding round. This latest investment increases its total funding to $13 million and highlights the confidence investors have in both the market potential and the company’s capabilities. The new funds will enable Callidus to delve even deeper into the growing $64 billion legal tech market.

Cervin Ventures led the funding round, joined by other notable investors such as AI Fund, Myriad Venture Partners, Tandem Ventures, Active Capital, and a consortium from a top U.S. law firm. This fresh capital will help Callidus double its product development speed and expand support for its growing customer base of over 1,000 users. The company also plans to triple its workforce in the coming months, hiring more talent in product development, engineering, customer support, and legal AI research, particularly in Texas and California.

Additionally, the funding will help the company enhance its end-to-end litigation platform, which aims to provide lawyers with high-quality legal outputs while maintaining control over their work.

The Vision Behind Callidus Legal AI

Founded in 2023 by Justin McCallon, a former restructuring and M&A lawyer, Callidus Legal AI was inspired by the slow and costly nature of litigation. While working on legal tech initiatives, he teamed up with co-founders John Bohlmann and Laura Seamon, each bringing valuable skills to the table. Their goal is to create a platform that enhances the lawyer’s role rather than replacing their decision-making ability.

The founding team combines deep legal knowledge with top-notch software engineering and AI expertise. This diverse background has been crucial in building a product that understands legal nuances while ensuring high performance and ease of use.

Creating Practical Legal Solutions

Unlike many AI tools that produce vague summaries, Callidus focuses on delivering what litigators truly need: detailed outlines, thorough precedent research, and fully developed, citation-rich documents that are ready for fine-tuning.

In May, Callidus announced its most advanced legal research and drafting system to date. Powered by cutting-edge engineering and a comprehensive database of over 10 million U.S. legal cases, the platform employs intelligent agents to analyze and summarize cases with impressive accuracy. This allows for rapid generation of issue-specific documents and legal research, all within a user-friendly interface that lawyers can trust.

Designed to keep attorneys engaged in the process, the system enables them to make strategic decisions while the AI handles the heavy lifting. Tasks that once took a week can now reach 85% completion in just 10 minutes. With tools fully integrated into Microsoft Word, lawyers can quickly finalize and file their court-ready documents.

Your Legal Co-Pilot

Callidus Legal AI is developing an operating system specifically for litigators. With plans to roll out new features throughout 2025, the company aims to transform the entire litigation process—from research to final drafts and more.

With fresh funding, a rapidly expanding customer base, and a proven product, Callidus is on track to reshape the legal landscape, bringing speed, accuracy, and thoughtful strategy to every case.
