Djokovic Survives Scary Fall to Advance at Wimbledon 2025

Novak Djokovic experienced a concerning moment during his quarterfinal match against Flavio Cobolli at Wimbledon 2025. On July 9, Djokovic secured his victory with scores of 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4, continuing the match for three hours and 11 minutes.

In the fourth set, with the score at 5-4 and 40-15, Djokovic was on the verge of winning. However, he faced challenges, failing to convert two match points. Unfortunately, on the second match point, he slipped and fell just as Cobolli’s shot grazed the net and went over. After lying down for a moment, Djokovic stood up and managed to serve out the match.

In a post-match interview, Djokovic addressed the incident, saying, “I had a bad slip, but that’s part of playing on grass. I’ve been fortunate not to fall much this year, so it was a bit surprising. With the way I move on this surface, falls can happen.” He added, “It was an awkward moment, but I managed to serve well and finish the game. I’ll definitely consult with my physio about it. I hope everything will be fine in a couple of days.”

Despite a shaky start, Djokovic truly found his rhythm after the first set, winning the second set decisively. He delivered an impressive performance, hitting 51 winners — 12 more than Cobolli, who struggled with 44 unforced errors.

While Cobolli faced challenges, he made progress in the ATP rankings, moving up five places to No. 19. Djokovic, on the other hand, matched Chris Evert’s record for the most Grand Slam semi-final appearances in the Open Era.

Looking ahead, Djokovic is set to face World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals. Sinner reached this stage after defeating American Ben Shelton in straight sets, winning comfortably with scores of 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-4.
