Rajkummar Rao Takes on New Dark Comedy Project
Rajkummar Rao is currently busy promoting his upcoming action-packed gangster film, Maalik. At the same time, he is gearing up for an exciting new project—a dark comedy for Netflix that promises a unique twist on the murder mystery genre.
The film will be directed by Aditya Nimbalkar, known for his gritty work in Sector 36. This untitled project will venture into lighter yet quirky territories, focusing on a murder with a comedic twist. Filming is set to begin this month in Mumbai, with locations including 1 Aerocity in Marol and Film City in Goregaon.
A source close to the production shared that the shooting schedule is planned for two months. Rao was so captivated by the script that he decided to join as a co-producer. This marks his second production venture following Toaster, another Netflix title that is expected to release later this year.
As excitement builds around the biopic of former cricketer Sourav Ganguly, which also features Rao, he’s found the perfect opportunity to fit in this new dark comedy. The Ganguly project is still in its pre-production stages and will reunite Rao with filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, with whom he previously collaborated on the 2016 film Trapped.
In the meantime, Rao’s theatrical release, Maalik, is set to hit cinemas on July 11. Directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, Rao will play a gangster transforming into a powerful figure. He will be joined by a talented cast, including Bengali star Prosenjit Chatterjee, former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, and breakout talent Medha Sankhar from 12th Fail.
