Resignations in Karnataka Cricket Association Following Tragic Stampede

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is facing a leadership shake-up after Secretary A. Shankar and Treasurer E. Jairam resigned in connection with a tragic incident during a recent event. Their resignations were announced in a press release on Saturday.

The stampede occurred on June 4, just a day after the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) celebrated their IPL title win against Punjab Kings. The chaos claimed the lives of 11 people and resulted in nearly 50 injuries. In their statement, Shankar and Jairam expressed their moral responsibility, despite their limited involvement in the planning of the event. They submitted their resignations to the KSCA President the day prior.

“In light of the unfortunate events of the past few days, we have decided to resign from our positions as Secretary and Treasurer of the KSCA. While our role was minimal, we believe it is important to take moral responsibility for what took place,” the release stated.

Details of the Stampede Incident

A significant crowd gathered outside Chinnaswamy Stadium to attend a ceremony honoring the RCB players after their IPL victory. Unfortunately, poor crowd management led to a devastating stampede, even though the event was only meant for attendees with valid passes.

In response to the tragedy, RCB has pledged compensation for the victims’ families and established a fund to assist those injured in the incident.
