Lorenzo Musetti Advances to Semi-Finals at French Open
Lorenzo Musetti has continued his impressive run on clay this season by defeating Frances Tiafoe in a thrilling four-set match to reach his first semi-final at the French Open on June 3. The final score was 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, showcasing a competitive battle, especially in the early sets.
This victory has improved Musetti’s clay court record to 19 wins and 3 losses for the year and has propelled him to a career-high fifth place in the ATP rankings. The match lasted nearly three hours, filled with intense rallies and skillful shots from both players.
The Italian star entered this quarter-final after tough matches against Mariano Navone and Holger Rune. After dropping the second set 6-4, Musetti rallied in the third. With the set tied at 5-5 and down 15-30, he held his serve and then broke Tiafoe’s serve, turning the momentum in his favor.
Musetti quickly took control in the fourth set, racing to a 3-0 lead and demonstrating his precise shot-making before claiming victory with his fifth break of the match. He was particularly effective on his first serve, winning 81% of points behind it.
In his post-match comments, Musetti reflected on his growth as both a player and a person since becoming a father last year. "It’s a process of growing, not just on the court but especially off the court," he shared.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced life. "Even when my family isn’t here, they are always with me in my heart. This win is for them."
Looking ahead, Musetti is set to face either defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or Tommy Paul in the semi-finals.
