Cow’s Survival Amidst Flooding in New South Wales

In the heart of New South Wales, Australia, a remarkable story of survival has emerged during the ongoing devastating floods. A cow, swept away by the fierce floodwaters, was discovered alive on Old Bar Beach, about 11 miles from its home in Taree.

Layla Philipson spotted the cow stranded in the sand and shared photos on the Taree Community Noticeboard on Facebook. Thanks to her post, the cow was soon reunited with its owner. “Alive cow Oldbar beach between Wallabi and meridian,” read her update.

The floods have hit New South Wales hard, with a slow-moving low-pressure system causing record rainfall. Some areas have seen over 27 inches of rain, leading to five confirmed deaths and leaving around 50,000 people isolated. An estimated 10,000 properties have suffered damage.

The Manning River, which flows through Taree, has reached levels not seen in nearly a century, forcing both residents and livestock to evacuate.

Emergency services have gotten involved in the crisis, performing over 700 rescues as they work to support affected communities. While the cow’s tale provides a moment of hope, the situation in the region remains challenging, and authorities continue to urge residents to stay alert in the face of persisting floodwaters.
