PM Modi: Talent, Temperament, and Technology Will Shape India’s Future

At the YUGM Innovation Conclave in New Delhi on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the crucial role of “talent, temperament, and technology” in transforming India’s future. He underscored the need to simplify regulations and speed up approvals to ensure that the benefits of innovation reach everyone.

Modi praised India’s youth as ‘R&D’—ready and disruptive—and pointed out how the country is achieving new milestones across various sectors. He stated that the time to act is limited, with ambitious goals to achieve by 2047.

He emphasized the importance of adapting to artificial intelligence, aiming to fast-track the shift from ideas to actual products to make India a developed nation within the next 25 years.

The Prime Minister noted significant progress in research and development since 2014. He shared impressive statistics, revealing that India’s spending on R&D has increased from ₹60,000 crore to over ₹1.25 lakh crore. Additionally, 6,000 higher education institutions now have dedicated Research and Development Cells, fostering a vibrant culture of innovation.

Modi also mentioned the rise in patent filings from 40,000 to over 80,000 a year, reflecting the support for young innovators in the country. He highlighted initiatives like the National Research Foundation, which has a budget of ₹50,000 crore for five years, and the One Nation One Subscription scheme for academic journals.

The Prime Minister showcased several groundbreaking innovations, including the world’s longest hyperloop test track, developed by IIT Madras and Indian Railways, and advancements in medical technology like a homegrown MRI machine. “This is the youthful power of a developing India—Ready, Disruptive, and Transformative!” he declared.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also addressed the audience, announcing plans to establish 50,000 new Atal Tinkering Labs in schools across the nation over the next five years, building on the 10,000 already in place. He emphasized the government’s commitment to skill development and enhancing educational access through various initiatives.

Pradhan referred to “YUGM” as a symbol of integration and vision, asserting that the ongoing education and research reforms are laying the groundwork for a self-reliant India.
