Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is currently facing a serious financial issue, as Eclatant Films Private Limited has issued a public notice demanding that he pay back Rs. 29.67 crores. This production company has also warned producers, distributors, and streaming platforms to avoid any dealings with Varma without their prior written consent, where necessary.
According to the public notice published on October 24 and 31, 2026, in Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine, Eclatant Films previously sent a legal notice to Varma on October 15, asking him to pay the outstanding amount of Rs. 29,67,64,000. This figure includes Rs. 11,38,92,000 in accumulated interest.
The dispute originates from an agreement made on April 10, 2010. Eclatant Films has referenced an order from the Bombay High Court, dated April 17, 2013, related to this agreement. They have set a deadline for Varma to settle the outstanding amount by October 30, 2026; otherwise, they will take action to enforce their rights over his shares and projects covered by this agreement.
The agreement also stipulates that Varma must obtain a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) before working with third parties on film-related activities until his dues are cleared.
Eclatant Films has explicitly warned those looking to license or distribute works related to this agreement to proceed with caution. They made it clear that entering into any transactions without the necessary NOC would be at the parties’ own risk. The notice includes potential legal actions, such as seeking injunctions or pursuing recovery proceedings to enforce their rights.
