Rotterdam, Netherlands – October 25: During his recent visit to the Port of Rotterdam, Indian Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the need for a significant increase in India’s port capacity. He stated that this capacity needs to be doubled twice over in the next twenty years to keep pace with the country’s growing economy and its expanding role in global trade.
Goyal mentioned that although India has successfully doubled its port capacity in the last decade, it is crucial that this progress continues to ensure the nation achieves its long-term economic goals by the year 2047. He noted, “The next two decades should see this capacity doubling twice over.”
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy known as the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which aims to enhance port capacity, modernize maritime infrastructure, and improve logistics efficiency. Additionally, the government is focusing on port-led development through the Sagarmala programme, which seeks to upgrade ports and boost connectivity.
Through these efforts, India is positioning itself to strengthen its presence in international trade while supporting its ambitious economic objectives for the future.
