French Business Owner Warns Macron Ahead of Major Protest

A French shop owner, whose family businesses were severely damaged by looters during recent protests, is urging President Emmanuel Macron to take decisive action before a significant protest scheduled for Saturday. Michèle Teboul believes this weekend’s demonstration could be critical for France.

In her words, “Next Saturday is your last chance to save France,” she told a reporter, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention. Teboul’s family experienced heavy losses when their stores were attacked, with five of them being completely wrecked and 15 stores impacted overall. Her trust in the government’s ability to provide safety for businesses and residents has diminished.

During the past week, protests throughout France escalated, raising fears of further unrest. Many business owners, including Teboul, have resorted to additional security measures, with some even purchasing weapons for protection ahead of the anticipated protests. “Some have bought weapons,” she disclosed, while highlighting that her sons have chosen to hire security with dogs instead.

The destruction has not only impacted her business but has also affected her personal sense of security. Teboul expressed deep concerns, particularly for the Jewish community in France, hinting that many members are contemplating leaving the country if the situation does not improve. “It’s hard to see a future for us here, especially for Jews,” she lamented.

Teboul also spoke about how the police presence during the protests was inadequate. She felt that authorities had underestimated the threat level, assuming the protests were merely routine demonstrations. According to her, the chaos allowed looters to take advantage of the crowd, leading to widespread theft and vandalism.

Looking ahead, she fears that the winter retail season may be lost for her family. They now face the challenge of repairing their stores, which could take at least two months while also dealing with the requirements set by insurance companies.

With the upcoming protest looming, Teboul’s call to the government reflects the sentiments of many, urging officials to prioritize public safety and restore order. “We need to feel secure; right now, we do not,” she said. As the tension continues to build, the outcome of the weekend’s events could prove significant for both the community and the current government.
